Chiropractic scientifically explained

A concise scientific explanation of chiropractic is that adjustments directly affect musculoskeletal structures by reducing pain and increasing joint motion.

Musculoskeletal structures include ligaments, muscles, joints, joint capsules, and surrounding myofascial tissues. Aside from this direct benefit, the autonomic nervous system is indirectly affected by the downregulation of the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight system), and promotion of the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and repair system).

This is done through the effect that chiropractic adjustments have on joint capsules and the body’s proprioception mechanism (sense of where one is in space), through the mechanoreceptors (provide information regarding mechanical changes within the body), in the joints and periarticular tissues (tissue surrounding the joint).

Chiropractic Care and Your Health

Chiropractic is a profession within the health care field that deals with the neuro-musculoskeletal system of the human body. A chiropractor will diagnose, as well as help prevent, injuries and disorders of the nerves, muscles, and bones.

While we will diagnose and treat these resultant injuries and disorders, the main objective is the removal of nerve interference allowing the body to heal itself without invasive procedures and/or drugs.

As would be the case with any other field of care, our patients at New Life Health & Wellness - Bolingbrook receive a thorough consultation including history and examination of their major complaint. After considering possible causes of the patient’s condition a diagnosis is established and a treatment plan is created.

What Kind Of Training Does A Chiropractor Have?

Chiropractors typically complete at least four years of professional training at an accredited chiropractic institution, often after obtaining an undergraduate degree in basic sciences or accumulating significant experience in a relevant healthcare field.

Chiropractic students dedicate at least 4,200 hours to classroom instruction and hands-on learning, including a minimum of 1,000 hours of supervised clinical practice. This intensive training ensures they are well-equipped to accurately diagnose conditions and apply effective treatments that support your body's natural healing process.

At New Life Health & Wellness - Bolingbrook, our dedicated chiropractic professionals are eager to meet you, understand your health goals, and develop a personalized care plan to improve your wellness. We look forward to helping you achieve optimal health.

The History Of Chiropractic Care

The term "chiropractic" originates from the Greek words "cheir," meaning "hand," and "praktos," meaning "done," reflecting the hands-on approach central to this form of care. Daniel David Palmer, the founder of chiropractic therapy, chose this name to emphasize its manual nature. In 1895, Palmer famously performed the first chiropractic adjustment on Harvey Lillard, a janitor who experienced partial hearing loss. Following this adjustment, Lillard reported notable improvement in his hearing.

Two years after this initial treatment, D.D. Palmer founded the first chiropractic school. Since then, chiropractic techniques, primarily involving spinal adjustments, have been widely adopted by healthcare professionals to address issues such as back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, migraines, muscle strains, and various other physical ailments. Today, millions globally continue to benefit from Palmer’s pioneering work.

If you want an amazing chiropractor that knows what he is doing and is down to earth and friendly then you need to check out Dr. Tim. I have been going to chiropractors off and on for 40 years stemming from a car accident. I have gone years without seeing one after moving because it is so hard to find the right one. He has helped when my shoulder was out of socket, for vertigo, headaches or when I’m just feeling a little off. He explains everything so that you understand. I am so grateful to have found him. I always leave feeling great!
